The NaturSoft™ product offers a compelling solution to the problems associated with mineral hardness versus a salt based water softener. Its media granules feature a very high surface that is hydrophilic in nature. The surface is composed of a deliberately identical growth form, or growth habit of calcium carbonate crystals. Given the right conditions, these crystals draw dissolved minerals out of solution and use those building blocks to continue to grow in same pattern and direction unless environmental factors compel a change. The scientific literature suggests that there are some 360 distinctive growth habits of calcium carbonate crystals that have been identified and described. Calcite, aragonite and vaterite are the most common forms. The different growth habits are believed to largely be the result of environmental factors like temperature, pressure, magnetic fields and contaminants which are ions other than calcium or carbonate that disrupt the previously established pattern.
